Very often, we may think that only actions that are directly associated to worshipping Allah, such as mustahabb salah and du‘as, would qualify as being useful in the Hereafter. This is not the case. As long as an action is done with a pure niyyah of pleasing Allah, it will be counted as a good deed.

This means that we can even do mubah actions with a specific and good niyyah and we will get thawab for it! For example, we can play a sport with the niyyah of keeping fit so that we can be strong to defend the truth as part of the group of Imam al-Mahdi (a). Or, we can have the niyyah that we go to school to gain knowledge and get a good job so that we can help people.
