What is the role of a nabi?

Allah sent 124,000 prophets to guide mankind throughout its history. In Arabic, a prophet is called Nabi, and the plural is anbiya. Among the Prophets some were given big missions to guide great civilisations. These were called Messengers or rusul (plural of rasul). Some of the rusul were given divine books.

The greatest merit of the prophets was their humbleness and humility towards God. This made it possible for them to unblock their hearts from barriers of selfishness and to open up for receiving his grace and guidance.

Receiving wahy from Allah

Allah appointed the anbiya to receive revelation from Him for mankind. Many anbiya and rusul received books or scrolls of instructions from Allah.
