One day, a person came to Imam Ali ar-Ridha (a) and asked him what his opinion on singing and music was. Imam (a) asked him a question in response: ‘If all of haqq (truth) was put on one side and all of batil (falsehood) was put on the other side, where do you think music would lie?’
